Sketching Life in San Clemente: The artist Journey of Ethan Espinosa

If you live in San Clemente, then you’ve probably seen Ethan Espinosa capturing joy-filled moments in time with his sketches down at the beach.

I recently had the chance to sit down with Ethan, a talented local artist based in San Clemente, California. Ethan’s passion for drawing dates back as far as he can remember, and over the years, his craft has evolved into something truly remarkable.

In 2021, Ethan decided to take a bold step in his artistic journey, committing to drawing people every day—a habit that would eventually become the foundation of his full-time career.

At times, he would sketch over 20 people in a single day, a testament to both his dedication and his ability to capture the essence of his subjects.

“Drawing people from life has become a daily habit and a real source of joy for me,” he shared. “It’s a way to connect, to really see someone and show them that they matter.”

While people are at the heart of his daily practice, Ethan’s creativity doesn’t stop there. His work spans a wide range of subjects, from landscapes and animals to abstract compositions. Each piece showcases his versatility and deep love for exploring new ways of seeing the world.

Through his art, Ethan captures more than just images—he communicates a sense of dignity and presence, offering viewers a glimpse into the lives of those around him. It’s this connection that makes his work so powerful and meaningful.
