Suzanna watkins: a lover of color & the wild

My takeaway themes from sitting down and interviewing @zanzidesigns were freedom, passion, and following your heart. And I think these aspects come through perfectly in her art✨

From a young age, the pull of creative expression has been a constant, guiding force in Suzanna’s life. She describes art as a “different dimension” – a space of pure freedom and intuition, where the constraints of reality melt away. Nurtured by a supportive, artistic mother, Suzanna’s innate gifts blossomed, though not without a sense of pressure to excel.

The journey has taken many forms for Suzanna – from the dreamlike textures of macrame and found-object assemblages, to the grounding tactility of pottery and ceramics, and finally, to the luminous realm of painting.

After a formative year of travel and self-discovery in Australia, a period of profound clarity emerged. Art was not just a passion, but a true calling, a wellspring of purpose and vitality for Suzanna.

Though the ceramics business that followed brought success and recognition, it also brought a creeping sense of creative stagnation. Letting go of that identity, with all its attendant demands and expectations, was a difficult but necessary step. Now, the canvas beckons, offering Suzanna a space of pure play and intuitive expression, unburdened by the need to monetize or perform.

The path of the artist is rarely a straight one, and Suzanna has weathered the storms of self-doubt, financial uncertainty, and the ever-shifting tides of the creative life.

Yet, through it all, the pull of the brush, the lure of color and form, has remained a steadfast companion – a connection to something deeper, more essential than the vicissitudes of circumstance. It is a story of resilience, of the courage to follow one’s inner voice, and the transformative power of creative expression.
